Late 2013 – 2015 Dodge vehicles with Uconnect vulnerable to remote control

Own a late 2013 to early 2015 Dodge Challenger with Uconnect?  You may want to download an update to your car’s Uconnect ASAP.

Wired has an article of a wireless hack that can take control of the cars, brakes, transmission and other electronic devices all from miles away.

To better simulate the experience of driving a vehicle while it’s being hijacked by an invisible, virtual force, Miller and Valasek refused to tell me ahead of time what kinds of attacks they planned to launch from Miller’s laptop in his house 10 miles west. Instead, they merely assured me that they wouldn’t do anything life-threatening. Then they told me to drive the Jeep onto the highway. “Remember, Andy,” Miller had said through my iPhone’s speaker just before I pulled onto the Interstate 64 on-ramp, “no matter what happens, don’t panic.”

Can’t fully tune our cars but someone can remotely take over and do anything they want

As the two hackers remotely toyed with the air-conditioning, radio, and windshield wipers, I mentally congratulated myself on my courage under pressure. That’s when they cut the transmission.

I suggest you read the full article over at wired and take advantage of downloading and installing the patch via the official Uconnect site (VIN required).  You should have received a letter from Dodge about and update (They do not tell you how important it is to do). If you don’t feel comfortible, I recommend contacting your local dealer and bring it in so they cna perform this update as soon as possible.
